Completion of road renovation work demanded

Baraigram (Natore) Correspondent :
The victims formed a human chain demanding the speedy completion of the Jonail-Rajapur road repair work in Baraigram upazila of Natore district. The human chain was held on both sides of the under-renovation Jonail-Rajapur road at Dighoir Mure of Jonail Union of the upazila on Friday.
American expatriate Amjad Hossain, school teacher Wajuddin, village doctor Golam Kibria, businessman Abdul Majeed Kazi, social worker Parash Ali and housewife Reema Khatun spoke at the human chain.
At this time, the speakers said that on October 29 of 2020, about 18 km road renovation and extension work started from Jonail Pagla Bazar to Rajapur Bazar. According to the contract, the renovation work period ended on April 12 last year. After that the period has been extended twice time. The second phase extension also ended on February 28. But due to the arbitrariness and stubbornness of the contractor, the road renovation work was not completed even after two and a half years. As a result, dust including brick dust is flying all day long due to traffic and slight wind on the unpaved roads. Pedestrians, houses adjacent to the road, shops are becoming dusty. Due to this, the locals are suffering from various problems including respiratory diseases.
At this time, the speaker demanded immediate completion of the unfinished road renovation work. Otherwise, they threatened to give a bigger program including blocking the road in the future.
