Poultry, egg prices rise, green chilies drop slightly
A visit to different markets across the capital on Friday found that prices of broiler chicken and eggs have increased compared to last week. But, beef prices remain stable.
A market visit found that fish prices have increased by Tk 20-30 per kg over the past week. Beef is selling at Tk 800 per kg, while eggs cost Tk 150-155 per dozen.
The price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 10 per kg to Tk 200. However, prices of Sonali, hybrid, and layer chicken remain unchanged. Sonali chicken is selling at Tk 360-370 per kg, hybrid chicken at Tk 330-340, and layer chicken at Tk 350 per kg.
Prices of farmed fish, including pangas, telapia, rui, catla, mrigel, and poa, have also increased by Tk 20-30 per kg.
Live pangas is selling at Tk 230 per kg, while tilapia costs Tk 260 per kg.
Depending on size and quality, shrimp is priced at Tk 800-900 per kg, pabda at Tk 350-400, large rui at Tk 450-500, and tangra at Tk 700. Vetki is selling at Tk 400-550, mrigel at Tk 250-300, baim at Tk 600-800, native koi at Tk 700-800, farmed koi at Tk 300, poa at Tk 260, and shoal at Tk 700 per kg.
Farmed shing fish is selling at Tk 300-450 per kg, depending on size, while medium-sized rohu costs Tk 300-350 per kg. Rupchanda, shoal, and river bele fish are selling for more than Tk 1,000 per kg.
It was also found that egg prices have increased by Tk 10-15 per dozen compared to last week. Farm eggs are selling at Tk 150-155 per dozen. Beef is selling at Tk 750-800 per kg, while mutton is priced at Tk 1,100-1,200 per kg.

After weeks of unusually high prices in the capital’s kitchen markets, blamed on continuous rainfall, vegetable prices have eased slightly as supply has improved. Most vegetables are now selling for Tk 60 to Tk 80 per kilogram, although some still cost around Tk 100.
Meanwhile, the price of green chilies has started to decline in the capital’s markets due to imports from India. Just a week ago, green chilies were selling for Tk 400 per kilogram in the retail market.
They are now priced at Tk 250 to Tk 280 per kilogram in many markets, while wholesale prices have fallen to Tk 180 to Tk 200 per kilogram.
Yardlong beans are selling at Tk 80 per kilogram, ridge gourd Tk 100, snake gourd Tk 80, sponge gourd Tk 60, cucumber Tk 60, pointed gourd Tk 60, okra Tk 60, papaya Tk 40, and tomatoes Tk 160 per kilogram.
Bottle gourd is selling at Tk 60 to Tk 80 each, radish Tk 80 per kilogram, jali gourd Tk 60, round eggplant Tk 100, carrots Tk 100, taro Tk 80, bitter gourd Tk 100, sweet pumpkin Tk 60 per kilogram, and green bananas at Tk 40 per four-piece bunch.
On the other hand, buyers said that prices of essential protein items are not coming under control due to a lack of effective market monitoring. They added that low- and middle-income families are facing the most pressure.
