Arrest warrant issued against Haji Salim’s son

A Dhaka court has issued a warrant of arrest against ward councillor Md Irfan Salim, son of Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-7 Haji Salim, after suspending the bail in a case filed on charge of beating and attempted murder of a Navy officer.
Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor issued the order on Wednesday.
Wednesday was fixed for hearing on charges. But Irfan could not appear before the court due to illness. Petition was filed on behalf of Irfan Salim seeking time in the case. However, his lawyer Pran Nath also could not attend the hearing for his personal business. In this context, the court suspended the bail to Irfan and order to launching trial through framing charges against him.
Earlier on October 26, 2020, Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed the case against Irfan and three of his associates for assaulting him at the Kalabagan crossing after Irfan’s car had hit the officer’s motorbike on October 25, 2020.
Later, the online bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Badruzzaman granted Irfan’s bail.
On October 27, 2020, the Dhanmondi police officer-in-charge filed a petition with the chief metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka for adding Section 307 of the Penal Code to the case against Irfan and his associates for attempt to murder Wasif and his wife by hitting his motorbike with the car and beating him inhumanly in front of his wife. On October 28, 2020, Irfan was shown arrested in the case.
