UN failed to resolve important issues

Mohammad Amjad Hossain :
It is simply iconic that the intent and purpose of the United Nations is to establish peace in the world but unfortunately the world body as of now has failed to resolve the issue of Palestine , Kashmir and Rohinghya of Myanmar as well. As a global institution the United Nations has been mandated “to save succeeding generation from the scourge of war, to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, to establish conditions under which justice and respect for treaties and international law can be maintained, to promote social progress and better standard of life in larger freedom. to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, and to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors. As a matter of fact, all member states who joined the United Nations have undertaken a solemn pledge and binding commitment, in the words of article 2 of the charter, to fulfill in good faith the obligations assumed by them in accordance with the present Charter. It is ironic that all-important members including five permanent members of the Security Council whose resolutions have repeatedly been violating the charter since the establishment of this world body. According to article 2, all members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such manner that international peace and security and justice are not endangered.” Apart from these, all member states should refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. All members shall give the United Nations every assistance in any action it takes in accordance with the present Charter.
Having said that, it has been noticed that the world body has made international peace and security endangered by their failure. Currently Russia, one of the permanent members of the Security Council, has attacked Ukraine without rhyme and reason in February of 2022. In fact, now Russia forces have launched a series of missile attacks near Kiev, capital of Ukraine. The UNO is watching the drama.
By now the state of Israel since its birth in 1948 scored highest marks in flouting resolutions of the world body to settle the disputes with Palestinians in collaboration with the United States of America. The resolution of the Security Council 242 adopted on 22 November 1967 and another resolution 338 by the Security Council on 22 October in1973 remained non-implementation.
The United Nations in fact has failed to resolve the crisis over Kashmir since 1947. The former Prime Minister of India late Atol Bihari Vajpai had in fact made an effort to resolve the Kashmir issue. Present government of India led by Narendra Modi Kashmir issue is now dead since Indian government has made series of resolutions to strengthen the hands of government to control Kashmir. Simla agreement should revive to resolve Kashmir issue. We may recall resolution of January 5 in 1949 by the UN for holding plebiscite in Kashmir to decide the fate of Kashmiri. Unfortunately the government of BJP led Narendra Modi abrogated article 370 of the Indian constitution on 5 August 2019 which gave the state special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The government of Narendra Modi in fact has created serious problems in Jammu and Kashmir.
The fate of the Rohingya of Myanmar is hanging since the World body did not take any measures as yet since the Rohinghya were driven out from their homes in Rakhine state by Tatmadaw in 2019. The UN is of the opinion that Rohingyas are the most persecuted minority in the world. Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the UNESCO said from Geneva on 21 August in 2020 that the Rohinghya crisis needs a lasting solution who praised the government of Bangladesh which has demonstrated profound commitment to the Rohingya crisis. A solution to the man made crisis is required now by the world body UNO.
