Fortune Barishal defeated Rangpur Riders by six wickets in a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
Sent into bat first, Rangpur Riders scored a fighting total of 158 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Fortune Barishal coasted home making 162 for the loss of four wickets with remaining four deliveries.
Barishal had a shaky start as they lost their two openers for 18 runs.
One-down Ibrahim Zadran and second-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz rescued their team from danger contributing together 84 runs for the third wicket partnership before Miraz was caught by Azmatullah Omarzai off Robiul Haque when Barishal’s total was 102 for the loss of three wickets.
Miraz hit a windy 43. His 29-ball innings had five fours. Earlier, Miraz picked up two wickets in the space of 21 runs. Miraz was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
After Miraz’s dismissal, Ibrahim Zadran was caught at the long-on by Shoaib Malik off Sikandar Raza when Barishal’s score was 124 for the loss of four wickets.
Ibrahim hit a polished 52. His 41-ball knock was laced with five fours and two sixers.
After Ibrahim’s departure, Iftikhar Ahmed and Karim Janat powered their team to overhaul the winning target putting together 38 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership.
Iftikhar remained unbeaten with 25 runs. His 18-ball innings had one sixer.
Janat remained unbeaten with 21runs. His 14-ball knock was studded with two fours and a sixer.
Sikandar Raza bagged two wickets at the cost of 14 runs, while Rakibul Hasan and Robiul Haque took one wicket apiece.
Rangpur Riders lost their early three wickets for 41 runs.
Opener Rony Talukdar and third-down Shoaib Malik contributed together 35 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Rony Talukdar was bowled out by Chaturanga de Silva when Rangpur’s total was 76 for the loss of four wickets.
Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten with 54 runs. His 36-ball innings was decorated with five fours and two sixes.
Rony Talukdar hit a stormy 40. His 28-ball innings saw five fours and a sixer.
Later, Shoaib Malik and seventh-down Robiul Haque built a notable partnership scoring together 41 runs in the unbroken eight-wicket stand before the Rangpur’s innings came to an end.
Chaturanga de Silva bagged two wickets instead of 30 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan, Ebadot Hossain and Karim Janat took one wicket each conceding 19, 22 and 24 runs respectively.
