Nabila demands budget increase for maternal, newborn treatment

Masuma Rahman Nabila is a popular actress of this generation. Outside the world of glamour, she is also regularly vocal about her social responsibilities.

This time, in that vein, the actress has played a vocal role in protecting the health rights of underprivileged mothers and children in the Rangpur region.

Nabila participated in a press briefing organised at a convention hall on Central Road in Rangpur city on August 17 afternoon.

There, she urged to ensure quality maternal and newborn services in government medical centres.

At the same time, she called on everyone to come forward unitedly to prevent diseases like child marriage and teenage pregnancy.

Before the briefing, Nabila visited the ongoing healthcare activities under the ‘Jononi’ project of Rangpur division.

As part of the inspection, she visited various medical centers and witnessed the quality of overall services for mothers and newborns.

During this time, the popular star exchanged views with women who came to seek prenatal and post-natal services, their relatives, teenage girls working to prevent child marriage, local public representatives and health officials.

Nabila, speaking to media, said, “We must ensure that the common people receive quality services at government medical centers.

There is no alternative to having timely healthcare and effective referral systems in remote and inaccessible areas.

If health workers are properly trained, assigned to the right places, and provided with a good working environment, people’s trust in medical services will increase to a great extent.”

Demanding an increase in government allocation for the health sector, the actress also said, “With a little extra attention and investment, every mother and newborn in the Rangpur region will have the opportunity to receive safe medical care.

Along with the government, initiatives like the ‘Jononi’ project are doing excellent work towards this end.”
