JS won’t be paralysed if BNP MPs leave

Staff Reporter :
The Parliament will not be dysfunctional even if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmakers resign as Awami League has a huge majority in the Parliament.
There is no reason to think that Parliament will be paralysed if seven members of BNP leave.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said this while addressing at a rally in Savar’s Radio Colony School and College ground organized by Dhaka District Awami League on Saturday.
Terming the BNP MPs decision to resign as ‘wrong’, he said adding that the party should repent for this in the coming days.
“Resigning from the Parliament is BNP’s decision and not the government’s. The Parliament will not stop its functioning even if they resign,” he added.
“Khaleda Zia was sentenced on the charge of embezzling orphan’s money. Today, she is residing safely at home due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s generosity. Has BNP freed Khaleda Zia by their movement?” Quader questioned.
BNP has started a picnic party, he said adding that they have also done this in rallies in different districts. “Where does the money come from? We know how much money a businessman and an industrialist have given,” Quader told the rally.
Quader was responding to a statement made by BNP leaders about their party’s MPs resigning from the Parliament if they see fit.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister also said that Awami League does not believe in counter-programmes.
Awami League is organizing several programmes now due to the upcoming national conference, and those are not in any way related to BNP’s rallies, he added.
Earlier in Rangpur rally on October 29, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had said that MPs from his party were ready to resign from the incumbent Parliament as their main goal is to restore democracy by ousting the Awami League government.
“We would like to straightly say that no election will be held in the country under Sheikh Hasina and without a caretaker government. Our only demand is the resignation of this regime,” he told a massive rally in Rangpur.
The BNP leader also said the government must dissolve the Parliament and hand over power to a caretaker government by ballot.
“Our MPs Harun, Rumeen and Zahid are ready to resign (from Parliament) as per the decision of the party. The government must hand over power to a caretaker government which will form a new Election Commission and a fresh election will be held under it,” Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
