Political parties demand release of BNP leaders including Fakhrul
Staff Reporter :
The Awami League-led government is pushing the country towards civil war. The ruling party chief warned that ‘arms and legs will be broken’ meaning that the government wants to crack down movement by force instead of giving people their civil rights.
At this moment, not only Dhaka, the opposition leaders and activists are being arrested all over the country.
Leaders of Ganotantra Mancha said this while speaking in a press conference held at the city’s Rastra Sangskar Andolan central office on Friday.
They demanded the release of the arrested BNP leaders, including the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Apart from this, different political parties including Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) and Gono Adhikar Parishad also demanded to release of the BNP leaders immediately.
“The government has said that no one will be given chance to come to power. It means they don’t believe in democracy. So there is no option to topple the government,” President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) ASM Abdur Rob said.
“We have to participate actively in the movement to oust the government. I will sacrifice my blood if needed. Even in the 80 years old and I am still ready to die. I don’t scare to go to the jail. I will continue fighting to save the country’s people till the last breath of my life,” he added.
The JSD President said that the AL and the government were giving various provocations in the name of guarding the streets.
Demanding release of BNP leaders, President of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, “The language in which the police officials spoke with the top leaders of BNP including Mirza Fakhrul is abusive.”
In response to a query, Manna said, they would lodge a simultaneous movement against the government.
Founder of the Ganosasthya Kendro Zafrullah Chowdhury said that 33,000 police and Ansar forces have been deployed in the capital.
Ansar-Police have taken positions in every school ground from Kalachandpur to Mirpur Kalshi, he said adding that Bangladesh Chhatra League ‘thugs’ are trying to force the hawkers to stand on the road with sticks and a country cannot run like this.
Zunayed Saki, Chief Coordinator of the Ganosanghati Andolan said that the government has taken a role from the beginning to stop the divisional rally of BNP in Dhaka.
Saiful Haque, General Secretary of Biplobi Workers Party, said that the government has called war against the people by setting up various dramas, excluding the path of dialogue.
This government will be ousted from the power by creating mass movement, he added.
The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) has demanded the release of the arrested BNP leaders, including the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
In a written speech at the press conference, CPB General Secretary and coordinator of the left alliance Ruhin Hossain Prince said, “The Awami fascist government is continuously snatching the constitutional rights of the people by obstructing the meetings, rallies and processions.”
The left alliance also announced the programme to observe nationwide protest and demonstration on 13 December.
Bazlur Rashid Firoz, central leader of the left alliance and general secretary of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad); Revolutionary Communist League leader Abdus Sattar, Basad (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana, Democratic Revolutionary Party General Secretary Mushrefa Mishu, Executive President of Socialist Movement Abdul Ali, CPB Assistant General Secretary Mihir Ghosh and other leftist leaders were present at the press conference.
