Emotional well-being: Positive intervention needed

Wares Ali Khan :
Financial crunch, familial crisis, social diversion and isolation, rapid urbanization, the gap in the fulfillment of preferred expectations, and most importantly, the ongoing epidemic of COVID-19 and its unprecedented multifaceted impacts have led to severe mental health crises and disruption in emotional wellbeing. At the end of the day, these affect us emotionally, upset us, and make us turbulent and traumatized. If the problems occurred in the mental or emotional state are not treated or cured in time, it becomes tremendous, negatively sharp, and critically impactful for many.
What we think, how we feel, and how we use our thinking consciousness to manage everyday life-are substantial parts of our mind as well as emotional health. Healthy persons having a sound mental state possess the right idea of themselves and never succumb to excessive emotions, such as anger, fear, violence, conflict, guilt, tension, depression, or anxiety. They can successfully deal with situations that arise in life. Now, problems related to mental health are a growing global tension and we are no exception.
Mental health is no less important than physical health. To have total well-being, a balanced connection of goodness with both physical and emotional health is imperative. It is never possible to achieve grand well-being by ignoring the holistic presence of sound mental health. But the reality and regret are that the more we are careful about our physical health, the more indifferent we are about the wellness of our mind.
It is an utter surprise that there is only one psychiatrist in the country for the three lakh people seeking care of their mental well-being. The number is very disproportionate and much dissatisfactory. This is actually due to our ignorance and indifference about emotional well-being, issues related to mental health, and mental disorders. By the way, we have to be careful not to let our mental illness settle down without any positive interventions.
People, on the whole, don’t want to reveal it; they always want to keep it secret. People think that if it is exposed that they have mental problems, they will be humiliated in the eyes of society. Thus misconceptions about mental disorders and emotional suppressions, and fear of social stigmatization work negatively not to address mental problems or emotional disorders to be settled decently.
After all, it is impossible to imagine a life without problems. As long as someone lives on the planet earth, the problem will stand as an unavoidable catalyst in life. But one has to deal with it on one’s own. Our life is a mixed blessing of success and failure. We have to accept this life-centered reality. Suitable solutions to life-oriented problems require stability and tranquility of mind. Stability in mental health is very important to make daily life beautiful and serene. As we take various steps to keep the body fit, it is also important for us to adhere to a certain set of actions for the soundness of the mind.
If we feel mental disturbance, emotional turbulence, or any sort of disorder, we must seek help from others. We should share our difficulties and negative feelings with reliable ones. Becausetoo much emotional disturbance can make us deranged in a greater context. Hence, if we feel emotionally stressed or disturbed, we must ensure counseling support or seek help from a psychiatrist.
However, every single day, one may feel the symptoms of any sort of negative emotional circumstance. For instance, each day, at some point in time, somehow we become anxious, depressed, stressed, angry or excited. All these signs are of emotional disturbance that gravely kills our mental well-being.
According to the study, by 2030, a single symptom of an emotional disorder named depression will be the biggest obstacle to human productivity in the entire globe. We all have to believe that staying well, being sound and healthy, and living a peaceful life is a matter of rigorous practice. So, we have to make a habit of living happily in life and handle the dominance of unpleasant emotions by habituating some course of action.
In this connection, maintaining a healthy dietary chart, doing a set of regular physical exercises, being mindful and integrated, remaining tension and stress-free, allocating quality time for oneself, accepting mistakes and confessing them, and converting negative emotional suppressions into positive actions might accelerate inner peace, serenity, and soundness.
At the same time, nourishing the actions that provide happily feelings, avoiding the over-thinking of others, being kind, empathetic, and sympathetic, forgiving others, ensuring utmost and sincere efforts to work, being disciplined, taking nutritious food, limiting the uses of smart gadgets, remaining mentally active, and having soulful companionship might cater to have the robust mental and emotional well-being complacently.
