Primary teacher recruitment scrutiny continues until Oct 1

The verification and scrutiny of successful candidates for assistant teacher posts in government primary schools will continue until October 1, Education Minister and Primary and Mass Education Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Monday.

Candidates who do not receive appointment letters by the deadline will have their cases reviewed and resolved subsequently, the minister said.

Milon disclosed the information while responding to journalists at the Secretariat before a meeting of the National Steering Committee on World Teachers’ Day 2026.

“The verification and posting of candidates selected for primary teacher recruitment are currently underway and will conclude by October 1. If anyone does not receive an appointment letter by that time, it will be issued following a subsequent review,” he said.

Responding to another question, the minister said only qualified candidates would be appointed and that the verification process would be conducted transparently in accordance with government regulations.

On teacher transfers, Milon said an online system was being introduced for the transfer of both primary school teachers and teachers of private MPO-listed institutions.

He said some administrative transfers had also been coordinated to address the posting needs of primary school teachers currently working on attachment.

Milon also said around 4,585 students who had previously failed SSC examinations have now passed following amendments to the Public Examination Act and the re-evaluation of answer scripts.

Another 3,079 students newly achieved GPA-5, while the grades of 27,836 students were revised, he said.

The examiners responsible for the discrepancies have been identified and will be held accountable and sent for training, the minister added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin said 100 distinguished teachers from different levels across the country would be honoured this year on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend the Teachers’ Day event, he said.
Mahdi Amin said the government was working to ensure the professional dignity of teachers.

Milon also said the government had adopted a “reverse brain drain” policy under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He said the government was working on a priority basis to bring back talented students and teachers who had gone abroad by expanding opportunities for advanced education and research in the country.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam; Whips Rakibul Islam Bakul and Mia Nuruddin Apu; Abdul Khaleque, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division; Md Daud Mia, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division; and Jasmin Nahar, Secretary of Primary and Mass Education.
