Dept of Law and Justice wins BAUET Debate

The Department of Law and Justice has emerged as the champion in the final round of the 1st Inter-Department English Parliamentary Debate, organised by the Debating Society at the Bangladesh Army University of Engineering and Technology (BAUET), located at Kadirabad Cantonment, Natore.

The competition held on Sunday at the university’s Panorama Building, the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) represented the Government side, while the Department of Law and Justice represented the Opposition.

Through their compelling arguments, the Opposition team-the Department of Law and Justice-secured the championship title. Rezyana Karim Tarin, a student from the Department of Law and Justice (Opposition team), was adjudged the ‘Best Speaker’ of the debate.

The competition featured arguments for and against topics such as Bangladesh’s transition to a high-income economy and the increased reliance on research and technological innovation in higher education.

BAUET Vice-Chancellor Brigadier General SM Lutfar Rahman attended the event as the chief guest. He remarked, “The primary objective of this competition is not merely to receive certificates or crests; rather, it plays a vital role in fostering students’ self-confidence, leadership qualities, analytical skills, and proficiency in English communication.”

Ahmed Yusuf Ayatullah, Advisor to the Debating Society and Assistant Professor of the Department of English, delivered a speech at the event, which was moderated by TabassumNusratIkra, a student of the English Department. At the conclusion of the competition, the chief guest presented crests and certificates to the winners.

Also present at the event were Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities and Law; Professor Mohammad Golam SarwarBhuiyan, Dean of the Faculty of ECE; Major Md. MonzinulMubin (Retd.), Deputy Registrar (Admin) and Acting Registrar; as well as heads of departments, faculty members, officials, and students.
