Rival AL men clash over supremacy in Jessore

Two rival groups of the local unit of ruling Awami League (AL) locked in a fierce clash at Samta Bazar in Sarsha upazila of Jessore district on Friday night over establishing supremacy.
Twelve crude bombs were exploded during the melee.
Shahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sarsha Police Station, said local Awami League leaders Liakat and Akbar Member had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy and taking control of Satmail cattle market.
As a sequel to the enmity, a chase and counter-chase took place between the supporters of the both groups over the issue at Samta-Satmail in the upazila at night.
At one stage, the supporters of Akbar Member blasted 12 crude bombs targeting their rivals, creating panic among the local people. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered an unexploded bomb from the spot. However, no casualty was reported. A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the incident.
