DU admission Hunger strike seeking 2nd chance

bdnews24.com :More than a hundred admission seekers are observing hunger strike protesting Dhaka University’s decision not to allow students to appear for the admission tests for the second time. The protesters sang the national anthem before beginning the fast unto death at the Central Shaheed Minar at noon on Wednesday. They would continue chanting slogans, sing and recite poetries until the authorities revise the decision, said a protester.Earlier, the students gathered in front of Dhaka University’s ‘Raju Bhashkarja’ at noon and took out a procession towards Bangabhaban.Police stopped them at ‘Doel Chattar’ and later allowed five protesters to take their memorandum to Bangabhaban. They handed it to Md Sentu Rahman, on-duty security official at the president’s official residence. The memorandum to the president, the chancellor of Dhaka University, said the university’s ‘sudden’ decision has affected significant number of students, leaving them at the mercy of ‘commercialism’ of private universities.Dhaka University announced the decision on Oct 14 saying allowing a second chance to old students can ‘deprive’ first time entry seekers.
