Members of Bangladesh Cricket team reached Christchurch of New Zealand on Friday to play two Test matches against New Zealand. After reaching Christchurch, members of Bangladesh Cricket team have taken a seven-day long quarantine there, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed this matter.
After ending the second Test against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on December 8, Bangladesh Cricket team left Dhaka for New Zealand.
Earlier, Bangladesh team went to New Zealand in this year’s February-March to play three-match One Day International (ODI) series and three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series.
Bangladesh team reached New Zealand as early as possible for the strict quarantine of New Zealand authority. This time Bangladesh have to take seven-day quarantine period. Earlier, Bangladesh took 14-day quarantine period in New Zealand. Members of Bangladesh Cricket team will undergo Covid-19 test for thrice. After becoming negative for coronavirus test, Bangladesh cricketers will be allowed to take part in their practice sessions.
Before this series, Bangladesh played 32 matches against New Zealand in 20 years there. But Bangladesh could not win in any match there.
After dismal performance in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup and disastrous performance against Pakistan recently, Bangladesh went to New Zealand to play two Test matches. Before those competitions, Bangladesh played against New Zealand a five-match T20I series in Dhaka. Bangladesh won the series 3-2.
Bangladesh team went to New Zealand without there two key players. Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and dashing opener Tamim Iqbal did not go to New Zealand. Shakib Al Hasan has been granted leisure by BCB, while Tamim Iqbal could not go to New Zealand due to injury.
The first Test is from January 1-5 at Bay Oval in Tauranga while the second match is from January 9-13 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
