Covid vaccine administration guidelines on final stage

Seventeen-point guideline for vaccine administration has been finalized comprising the training of vaccine workers, cold chain maintenance are, ensuring the security of vaccine centres and take measures to prevent rumours.
This guideline was given recently from a meeting held in Prime Minister Office (PMO).
To complete the vaccination programme in smooth way it is said to form a 14-member committee at division, district and upazilla level.
The information of vaccine receivers will be stored at a database.
Besides, the direction was given to the concerned authorities to make proper guidelines for vaccine waste disposal.
On Sunday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said, Bangladesh is hopeful of receiving 55 million doses of the coronavirus vaccines from the Serum Institute of India and under a programme led by het World Health Organization within June, 2021.
The government has signed a deal with Serum for 30 million shots of the vaccine developed by the UK’s University of Oxford and drugmaker AstraZeneca with 5 million doses per month.
The global vaccine alliance GAVI has pledged to provide Bangladesh with about 68 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines to cover 20 percent of the population under the WHO-led COVAX programme.
The minister said 25 million doses under the COVAX programme are expected to arrive by May or June.
Bangladesh has sent the purchase order to Serum, and the first batches of the Oxford vaccines will arrive at the end of January or early February immediately after AstraZeneca secures the WHO’s approval, he said.
The government will be able to give the shots to 2.5 million people in a month, which means it will take about a year to give 55 million doses, according to Zahid Maleque.
He said the government has ensured a cold chain to transport and store the shots.
Experts said, it will be big challenge for Bangladesh to keep the vaccine at a cold enough temperature and transport. So, it should give importance to cold chain management, they advised.
Public health experts said, it should give vaccine after anti-body test to avoid misuse of the vaccine.
Public health expert, Professor Dr Benazir Ahmed said, crisis can arise if the vaccination programme will start without anti-body test. Besides, it will be needed less vaccine after anti-body test.
