NCP prog Sarjis, Patwari injured in Habiganj attack
At least 10 leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party, including Sarjis Alam and Nasiruddin Patwari, were injured in an attack on an NCP procession in Habiganj on Tuesday afternoon, the party said.
The incident occurred in the Circuit House area of the district town during the party’s “July March” programme.
The NCP alleged that local BNP leaders and activists carried out the attack. Several vehicles used by journalists and the party’s media team were also vandalised.
NCP Joint Member Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat said the attackers suddenly targeted the vehicle convoy carrying Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari and Northern Region Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam.
He said Sarjis and Patwari suffered injuries and received first aid following the incident.
The NCP further alleged that attackers took its media team’s microbus inside the Habiganj Circuit House compound and vandalised it.
The party claimed that mobile phones and cameras were also taken from the vehicle. It said it had obtained video footage of the vandalism.
The BNP could not immediately be reached for comment on the allegation.
