3 youths sent to jail over rape, murder of Tripura girl

A khagrachhari court has sent three detained youths to jail in connection with the murder of Tripura girl after gang-rape on Monday night at remote Boropara area of sadar upazila of the district.
On Wednesday, the detained accused Rumen Tripura, 22, Kambol Tripura, 20, and Triron Tripura, 22, were presented to the court of Khagrachhari Chief Judicial Magistrate F.M Zillur Rahman. After receiving the statement, the court ordered them to send in jail.
Before that, on Tuesday night, victim Dhanita Tripura’s mother Shwarolekha Tripura as a complainant filed a rape and murder case in Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station against the accused Rumen Tripura, son of Dasindra Tripura; Kambol Tripura, son of late Zatendra Tripura and Triron Tripura, son of late Tanindra Tripura. All the accused are resident of Bhijachandra Karbaripara area of Bhibonchhara union of Sadar upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Shahadat Hossain Tito said, “Victim’s death body was handed over to the family on Tuesday night after autopsy.”
“The three detainees youth have already confessed in police about the murder after gang-rape in the initial interrogation. Dhanita was raped consecutively from 10.00 pm to 12.30 am at the night of the incident. Then they killed her by suffocating and fled from there,” OC added.
Victim’s mother Shwarolekha Tripura said, “Accused Rumen Tripura used to put pressure on the victim to marry him for a long time. On Monday night, he phoned to Dhanita’s mother and threatened to take her daughter away. Later, she was raped and murdered.”
