Pahela Baishakh celebrated in Port City

Charukala Institute of Chattogram University brought out Mongal Shobhajatra on the occasion of the Pahela Baishakh on Sunday.

Pahela Boishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year, is being celebrated in the port city Chattogram and district today with great enthusiasm, fanfare and festivity.
The district administration, Chattogram City Corporation and activists of different socio-cultural, professional and business organisations, NGOs, private bodies and educational institutions have chalked out colourful programmes for welcoming the Bengali New Year.
Marking the celebration, Chattogram district administration and Chattogram City Corporation arranged separate colourful rallies from Chattogram Circuit House premises and Gymnasium premises of MA Aziz stadium respectively.
Thousands of people of all ages, wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing “Esho Hey Boishakh Esho Esho” participated in the main ‘Baishakhi’ rally to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated and led the rally of CCC on Gymnasium premises of MA Aziz stadium, Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan and Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Ilias Hossain led another colourful ‘Baishakhi’ rally which concluded on Shilpakola academy premises after parading some important thoroughfares.
To welcome the Bengali New Year another colorful “Mongol Shobha Jattara” was brought out from fine arts institute at 9 am today and the rally paraded different important city roads.
District administration also organised a discussion on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh at Shilpakala academy at 9 am today.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mohammad Ilias Hossain presided over the function while City Mayor AZM Nasir Uddin, Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Deputy Inspector General of Police Golam Faruk and Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Mahbubur Rahman, among others, addressed the discussion.
The speakers put emphasis on reviving the past glories of the non-communal rich Bengali culture to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation and disseminate true national history to the young generations.
The main programme of Pahela Boishakh began after sunrise at the historic DC hill and Shristala of CRB hill where artistes of Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad performed the songs including -“Esho hey Boishakh Esho Esho,”.
Both programmes inaugurated by the CCC Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin. Besides, socio-cultural, literary organizations and educational institutions celebrated the day welcoming the Bengali New Year 1426.
Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad began its two-day programme through a colourful procession. Kabadi, bullfight, cockfight and puppet show were the main attractions of the day.
Improved diets were served to the inmates of all hospitals, Chittagong Central Jail, orphanages, shishu paribars, vagabond centres and orphanages in the port city.
Hundreds socio-cultural organization including Chattogram Press Club, Chattogram University, University of Science and Technology in Chattogram (USTC) and Government Fine Arts College, Borsho Biday O Borsho Sommilon Parishad, BWA School and College, Global Scholar School and College, Shahitya Parishad and Government City College celebrated the day through various programmes.
IIUC celebrates Pahela Boishak
Chattogram Bureau says : International Islami University Chattogram (IIUC) observed the Pahela Baishak on Sunday amid colourful programs and festivity mood.
The daylong programmes s of Pahela Baishak include Baishaki rally , sports com- petitions, Athletes of the children, cock fighting, ha do do game and prize giving ceremony .
Later, a discussion meeting on new Bengali year was arranged at own campus in Kumira presided by Acting Director of Students Affairs Division Md. Mamunur Rashid .
Dean of Science & Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain graced the occasion as chief guest.Among others, Proctor, Asstt. Proctor, Hall Provosts were present . All attended participants were entertained with traditional Bangla foods and sweets, IIUC sources said.
