x-mas celebrated in Port City

The great festival of the Christian community- Christmas Day commemorating the birthday of Jesus Christ was celebrated yesterday with religious festivity in the port city as elsewhere across the country .
The Christians of different groups celebrated the festival amid merriment and festivity of religious fervor offering special prayers, illuminating churches, installing makeshift Christmas trees at homes and places of worship elder people of the community, attired in the outfit of Santa Claus, make fun with children and distribute gifts as part of a universal Christian practice.
In a message President AbdulHamid said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony where the people are tied with the bond of love and friendship.
Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina also given message on this occasion.
“One of the goals of Jesus Christ was to establish justice and peace in the world to make an exploitation-free society,” she said, adding that Great Christ had sacrificed for the endangered and hungry people.
Churches in the port city have been illuminated, Christmas trees were set up and candles were lit at homes and churches by the Christian community to celebrate the event with due religious fervour.
The great congregation of the port city was held at Pathergatha Catholic church in city.
The worshippers prayed for peace and tranquility among the people across the world.
The national and local dailies published special articles marking the Christmoas.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar Chittagong centre and other private TV channels also telecasted special Christmas programmes throughout the day.
