Students to get free weekly access to July Uprising Museum

The government has taken an initiative to open the July Uprising Museum and other museums across the country to students, with schoolchildren to be allowed to visit the July Uprising Museum free of charge once a week.

Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman disclosed the decision while responding to questions at a press conference on the progress of various government activities at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

He said a specific day has been set for students to visit the July Uprising Museum. Students from higher classes of schools will be taken to the museum under a government arrangement.

to enter the museum, the adviser said the visits would be free of charge. He said the initiative would not be limited to students of government schools. Students from all schools would gradually be brought under the programme.

“It is not only this museum. Arrangements are also being made to bring school students to the National Museum under government management,” Zahed Ur Rahman said. He said similar initiatives would be taken for museums in and outside Dhaka. Students would be taken to museums under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs as well as museums managed by other ministries.

The adviser also noted the strong public interest in the July Uprising Museum since its opening. He said there had been some minor management difficulties initially due to the large number of visitors, but the situation was brought under control and visitors are now able to tour the museum in an orderly manner.

He said the initiative would give students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of the country’s history, heritage and important events while encouraging them to visit museums more regularly.
