BTRC to hold public hearing today

Economic Reporter :
Against the backdrop of subscribers’ dissatisfaction on mobile phone services, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is set to hold a public hearing tomorrow to listen to subscribers’ complaints.
The hearing would take place in Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Tuesday afternoon where the subscriber could say their experiences and opinion on call drop, voice call as well as internet bundle packages and prices. This is the first time that BTRC is hosting such an event to resolve the issues.
A high official of BTRC told The New Nation on Monday that a total of 1307 people have applied to enlist their names till November 17, the last day of registration. “But, BTRC has decided to allow 450 people to attend the hearing considering their nature of complaints,” he added.
Meanwhile, the nominated candidates have been informed ensuring their participation at the hearing through mail or SMS or phone call, said the official.
At the public hearing, apart from the BTRC officials, the senior executives of the mobile operators will be present and they have to respond to queries and complaints.
The official said the commission has taken the move after receiving huge complaints from the subscribers about the complexities and loopholes of different internet service-packs and call rate offers especially quality of services (QoS).
“The main discussion point at the public hearing will be quality of internet and voice service along with the customer care experiences of the subscribers of different operators,” he added.
The decision to hold the public hearing was made in the 199th commission meeting in August after an allegation of offering “unwanted package” was filed against the largest telecom operator in the country at a judge’s court in Chittagong.
