Pahela Baishakh the first day of Bangla new year was celebrated here with traditional and fervour.
District administration and many others organisation here chalked out separate programmes to mark the day. The programmes includes Baishakhi mela, colourful rally, distribution of sweets folk festival, cultural function and feeding of Panta Bath with fried hilsha fish for entertainment of the guest.
A discussion meeting held at Biam Labratory school premise organise by District Administration with D.C S.M. Alam in the chair on Monday. It was address among others by Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain Khan, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Zillur Rahman, Zila Parished CEO Md. Anisuzzaman, ADC (General) Jamil Ahmed and Poet Badhan Roy.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year-1421, was celebrated in Sylhet city and adjacent upazilas on Monday with festivity. Marking the day, a colourful procession styled ‘Mangal Shavajatra’, was brought out from the Institute of Fine Arts, Sylhet Leading, Metropoliton, International University, at around 10 am. Besides, the teachers and students of the institute, people from different sections of society also joined the parade carrying various mammoth structures, festoons, placards, masks, Papier-mâché replicas of pots, dolls, birds, animals and musical instruments and banners. Also, a Boli Khela (traditional wrestling competition of Sylhet), a specialised and significant feature of the day’s recreational activities, was held on Central Muslim Sahit Sangsad premises.
The carnival-goers, specially the children and youngsters throng the Baishakhi Mela, while they were also amused by watching outdoor programmes and foods like ‘panta bhat’ (watered rice) with fried hilsa, pitha (traditional cake).
RU Correspondent reports: Pahela Boishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year was celebrated at Rajshahi University (RU) through age old traditional events and customs.
The programmes to celebrate the country’s most secular and major traditional events included colorful procession, Boishakhi fair, Chaittrasankranti, music soiree, rendering of folk songs, discussion, art and painting competition and recitation of poems were staged on the campus.
The whole university wore a festive look as most of the department of the university chalked out elaborate programmes separately at a lot of places of the campus.
An air of festivity was specially felt around fine arts department of the university. They brought out a colorful procession on the campus at 9:30am with decorative replicas of animals as well as elements of Bengali culture.
The department also held a three day long Boishakhi fair featuring art and rafts exhibition and cultural programmes including Ghambhira at Charu Chattar.
Business Studies Faculty Debating Forum (BFDF) of the university also arranged different traditional programmes for marking the day.
They arranged an attractive cultural event at old folklore chattar of the university where poular singer of the country Topu, Porshi, Polash maddened the stage.
Prof Mohammad Mizanuddin, vice chancellor of the university inaugurated the programmes at 9:00am as a chief guest while Pro-vice chancellor Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and different department’s chairmen were present as special guests.
