Debutante Mosaddek Hossain guided Bangladesh to score a modest total of 208 off 49.2 overs against Afghanistan in their second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Debutante Mosaddek Hossain fought back against the bowling attack of Afghanistan. He remained unbeaten with 45. His run-a-ball superb innings was ornamented with two huge sixes and four fours.
Mushfiqur Rahim was the other notable scorer for Bangladesh who hit a fine 38. His 51-ball innings was decorated with four fours.
Bangladesh made a meek start as Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar, the two openers put on together 45 runs before Tamim Iqbal (20) was caught at the third-man by Dawlat Zadran off Mirwais Ashraf when Bangladesh’s score was 45 for the loss of one wicket.
After dismissal of Tamim, Soumya Sarkar (20) could stay at the crease for a short time as he was caught at the cover by Hashmatullah Shahidi off Mirwais Ashraf when the hosts’ total was 50 for the loss two wickets.
Then Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim repaired the damage contributing together 61 runs in the third wicket stand before Mahmudullah Riyad (25) was cleanly bowled out by Naveen-ul-Haq when the Tigers’ score was 111 for the loss of three wickets.
After departure of Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the deep square leg by Navven-ul-Haque off Rahmat Shah when Bangladesh’s score was 122 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Bangladesh faced a batting collapse as Shakib Al Hasan (17) was trapped leg before wicket by Mohammad Nabi when Bangladesh’s total was 138 for the loss of five wickets and Sabbir Rahman (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when the home sides’ score was 138 for the loss of six wickets.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (2) was caught at the mid-off by Dawlat Zadran off Mohammad Nabi when Bangladesh’s total was 141 for the loss of seven wickets.
After dismissal of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, debutante Mosaddek Hossain and Taijul Islam added worthy 24 runs for the eighth wicket stand before Taijul Islam (10) was trapped leg before wicket when Bangladesh’s score was 165 for the loss of eight wickets.
After removal of Taijul, innings of Taskin Ahmed (0) was short-lived as he was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when the hosts’ total was 165.
Later, Mosaddek Hossain and Rubel Hossain made a heroic fight contributing 43 runs for the last wicket partnership before Rubel Hossain (10) was unfortunately run out by Naveen-ul-Haq when Bangladesh’s innings was concluded.
Rashid Khan grabbed three wickets at the cost of 35 runs while Mohammad Nabi and Mirwais Ashraf bagged a pair of wickets each for 16 and 23 runs respectively.
Besides, Rahmat Shah and Naveen-ul-Haq took one wicket each.
