Teesta plan implementation to begin soon

Padma Barrage work has formally begun and visible progress will be seen soon, says water resources minister Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee has said the government is working to expedite implementation of the Teesta Master Plan and the Padma Barrage project to strengthen water resources management and promote regional development.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a doa and discussion programme marking the second anniversary of the July Uprising at Jahangirnagar University on Thursday night.

Anee said work on the Padma Barrage project had already formally begun and that visible progress would be seen soon.

“Alongside the Teesta project, we have already decided to construct the Padma Barrage. The work has formally begun, and people will see visible progress very soon,” he said.

Responding to a question about the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, the minister said that although the project had been discussed for a long time, little progress had previously been made on the necessary studies and technical assistance.

He said the government had now initiated the required work in line with its commitments and the longstanding aspirations of people living in the Teesta basin.

“We will complete the necessary studies very soon and then move forward with visible implementation of the project for the welfare of the people of the Teesta basin, regional development and the country’s economic transformation,” Anee said.
