Civic life cripples with incessant rain

The civic life of port city paralysed yesterday following the incessant torrential rain from early morning last . The low lying areas of the city inundated with waist deep water and most of places in city gone under knee deep water, a number eye witnesses said. The students of primary and secondary school faced severe miseries over transportation to their school due to rain and inclement weather.
Patenga met office sources said up to 3 pm yesterday the rain recorded at 89 .2 milimeter . Met sources said the rain may continue upto night and local warning signal No.3 is hoisted in the port city and its adjoining areas.
The severely rain affected areas include Chowkbazar, Katalgonj, Badurtala, Bahaddarhat, Agrabad, Halishahar, Baluardighir par . Beside the incessant rain the tidal water are pouring in the city through 118 medium and small size khals(canals) from river Karnphuli. City corporation Disaster Managemnent Committee President councilor Saibal Das summon told that water-logging somehow lessened than before but incessant and impact of tidal wave in Bay , the miserable water situation arisen. He further said defying the rain, the conservancy workers of the corporation are engaged to cleanup the wastes from the drains and roads to ease the smooth water flowing.
A resident of Bakalia told this correspondent that sudden rise of water accompanied with tidal water and incessant rain, the ground floor of their house gone under water and all household materials partially damaged. The kutcha houses in the slum areas of the low lying areas are the worst sufferers , sources said.
