Law enforcing members recovered 1.70 lakh pieces of intoxicated yaba tablets from different parts of the port city in last two days. Six drug peddlers allegedly involved with the taba trafficking including 2 females were detained in connection, sources said.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 on Wednesday busted two dens of drug dealers in Chittagong and recovered 90,000 yaba tablets, worth around Taka 3.6 crore, which were destined for Dhaka.RAB also arrested two drug dealers and was able to learn the names of their associates in their primary interrogation.
“Acting on a tip off, a RAB-7 team raided New Al-Amin Transport Agency in Kadamtali, Chittagong and recovered 70,000 yaba tablets hidden inside cartons of energy bulbs. Following the information received from the raiding personnel, RAB launched another raid on New Shimul Transport in the area and recovered 20,000 more yaba hidden in the similar cover,” a RAB release said.
RAB arrested Ahammed Nur, 48, of village Shikalbaha under Potia Police Station in Chittagong and Md Russel, 29, of village Bakolia under Bakolia Police Station, from the transport office. The arrestees in the primary investigation confessed that they are in the drug trading for long and used to bring yaba from Teknaf with the help of Potia Union Parishad chairman Md Selim, 50 and another person, Md Jahangir, 35. They used to send yaba to Md Ilen Hossain, 48, and Md Belal Hossain, 35, in Dhaka.
“They used to send yaba consignments under the cover of electric products and make transactions through SA Paribahan. They have already sent eight yaba consignments to Dhaka in July and August,” the release added.
Meanwhile, CMP police forces also recovered 80,000 pieces of yaba in separate drives in the city on Thursday. Police sources said in a raid in Pahartali and Karanphuli thana areas, these yabas were recovered. Officer incharge of Pahartali thana Ranjit Kumar Barua told that 50 thousand pieces of yaba recovered from 5-storied building of Idgaon area under Paharali area on Thursday at about 8 pm. Three drug peddlers in connection were held from the building allegedly involved with the trafficking.
The detained identified as Afsa Raihan, Jahanara Begum and Sumi Begum. On the other hand RAB sources said RAB members recovered 30,000 yaba tablets from New Karnaphuli bridge area under Karnaphuli thana and detained a drug peddlers from the spot alongwith the CNG taxi. The identity of the drug peddler could not be known immediately, sources added.
