Govt cancels contract of cabinet secretary

Staff Reporter :

The interim government has cancelled the remaining contractual tenure of Sheikh Abdur Rashid as Cabinet Secretary, according to official notifications issued on Saturday.

In a separate decision, M Siraj Uddin Mia, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has been given additional charge as Cabinet Secretary.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued two separate gazette notifications regarding the cancellation of Rashid’s contract and the assignment of additional responsibilities to Siraj Uddin Mia.

Sheikh Abdur Rashid had previously retired as an Additional Secretary several years ago. However, following the fall of the Awami League government during the mass uprising in 2024 and the assumption of office by the interim government, he was appointed on a contractual basis as Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

Subsequently, on October 14 of that year – or from the date of his joining – he was appointed as Cabinet Secretary on a two-year contractual term. The latest government decision has now annulled the remaining period of that contract.
