Dhaka slams Israel attacks

Dhaka has strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, which have resulted in civilian casualties, including the death of a Bangladeshi national.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Saturday expressing deep concern over the escalation of violence and its potential to derail ongoing peace efforts in the region.

In its condemnation, Bangladesh expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of innocent lives due to the Israeli attacks, highlighting the devastating impact the violence has had on civilians.

The Ministry also specifically denounced the killing of Dipali, a Bangladeshi citizen, who was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving family of Dipali and stand in solidarity with them during this immensely difficult time,” the statement read.

“The government of Bangladesh is in close contact with the family and will take all necessary steps to ensure that her remains are repatriated as soon as the situation allows,” it added.

The statement further emphasised that the Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to arrange for the repatriation of the deceased’s body.

In the wake of the ongoing violence, Bangladesh has also been actively following developments regarding its nationals in conflict zones across the Middle East.

As of now, at least seven Bangladeshi nationals have been reported killed in various Middle Eastern war.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed on Thursday said that the government has so far recorded seven Bangladeshis killed so far.

Addressing the broader situation, the state minister reiterated Bangladesh’s position on the conflict.

“Bangladesh wants this war to end immediately. The issues created globally should be resolved through diplomacy,” she said.

The government has been taking measures to assist the families of the victims and facilitate the safe return of their remains, she also stated.

The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry has reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and renewed efforts towards peace in the Middle East.

“Bangladesh firmly believes that any escalation of violence will only serve to worsen the situation and further undermine the pursuit of lasting peace and stability in the region,” the statement concluded.

The Bangladesh government has also been providing support to its citizens in conflict zones by enhancing diplomatic engagement, offering consular services, and urging for peaceful resolutions to all regional disputes, sources said.
