The White Paper on the State of the Bangladesh Economy was submitted to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Sunday. Eminent economist Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, chair of the committee, led the delegation during the submission ceremony held at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
The document spans 22 chapters, covering topics such as inflation, GDP growth, the banking sector, external balance, power and energy, the quality of statistics, government debt, revenue, expenditure, mega projects, poverty, and inequality.
It also focuses on areas including public finance management, domestic resources, public expenditure (such as public investment, ADP, subsidies, and debt), financing of the budget deficit; inflation and food management (production, procurement, and distribution); external balance (exports, imports, remittances, FDI, foreign exchange reserves, foreign finance flows, and debt); energy and power (demand, supply, pricing, costs, and purchase agreements); private investment (access to credit, electricity, connectivity, and logistics); and employment (in-country and overseas, formal and informal wages, and youth employment).
Earlier on Thursday, Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya mentioned that the White Paper would recommend measures for boosting the confidence of foreign investors and lenders, encouraging them to continue their activities in Bangladesh.
He confirmed that the final report would be submitted to Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus on Sunday, with the findings to be made public at a press conference on Monday.
