Staff Reporter:
Following the mass uprising that began on August 5, several police officers lost their lives in violent clashes across the country. Amid the unrest, a number of police personnel demonstrated exceptional bravery, risking their lives to rescue injured colleagues, arrange the burial of the deceased, and bring volatile situations under control. Their patriotic efforts were praised at both national and international levels.
However, according to reliable sources, despite being eligible for the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and the President’s Police Medal (PPM), the names of these courageous officers have not yet been formally proposed for recognition. In contrast, reports have surfaced suggesting that Inspector Monirul Haque Dablu, currently serving as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police Station, has been nominated for the PPM — despite his controversial reputation.
Inspector Dablu has faced multiple allegations of misconduct and political involvement throughout his career. Sources claim that during his student years, he was an active member of the Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Liaquat-Babu panel. This affiliation is referenced in a Demi-Official (DO) letter issued by former Narayanganj-2 Member of Parliament Nazrul Islam Babu, who endorsed Dablu’s promotion and praised his political loyalty, citing his role as a committed central committee member of the Chhatra League.
As of now, police authorities have not publicly addressed the selection process for this year’s award recipients.
