The Ministry of Railways has issued heightened safety directives to prevent potential accidents on railway tracks in response to the ongoing cold wave and dense fog across the country
According to a press release signed by Rezaul Karim Siddiqui, Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Railways, on Friday, January 3, a series of precautionary measures have been outlined to ensure safety during reduced visibility caused by fog.
Enhanced Vigilance by Running Staff: Train operators are instructed to maintain heightened caution while operating trains under foggy conditions.
Proper Performance at Level Crossings: Personnel stationed at level crossings must perform their duties diligently.
Public Awareness: Pedestrians are advised to exercise caution while crossing unguarded level crossings and to avoid unnecessary movement on railway tracks.
The press release highlighted that the ongoing cold wave has significantly reduced visibility in many areas, disrupting normal train operations and increasing the risk of accidents.
To mitigate these risks, the Ministry of Railways and Bangladesh Railway have urged all officials, employees, and pedestrians to adhere strictly to these safety measures.
Authorities have assured the public that steps are being taken to ensure smooth and safe train operations during this period of reduced visibility.
Dense fog is a common natural phenomenon that significantly impacts railway operations, often contributing to accidents. The reduced visibility caused by fog creates numerous challenges, especially for train operators, signaling systems, and pedestrians near railway tracks.
Dense fog lowers visibility, making it difficult for train operators to see signals, other trains, or obstacles on the track. This increases the risk of collisions or derailments.
Visibility issues may lead to signal misinterpretation or failure to notice warnings, compromising the safety of train operations.
Fog makes it challenging for drivers and pedestrians to judge the speed and distance of approaching trains, resulting in accidents at level crossings.
To ensure safety, trains are often operated at reduced speeds during foggy conditions, leading to delays and potential mismanagement of train schedules.
