IUB launches dormitory for female students

A female dormitory namely ‘IUB-Saima Hall’ for the meritorious female students from outside Dhaka city was launched at Baridhara in the capital recently.
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) set up the dormitory with generous support of the Shaheed Khalek and Major Salek Bir Uttam Trust.
Tahrunnesa Abdullah, a renowned social activist and Magsaysay award winner , inaugurated the dormitory at a ceremony as the chief guest. About this initiative, Abdullah tells – “I am really delighted to mention that IUB has done something significant for the female students.
There are many capable personalities and institutions in our country, they should also come forward, initiate similar facilities and sustain these in our society.”
A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman of IUB Founding Trust, Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman of Board of Trustees, IUB and M Omar Rahman, Vice-chancellor, IUB and other officials also attended the launching ceremony.
Mentionable, the dormitory students will receive full tuition scholarship from IUB aside from free dormitory facility.
At this moment, female students from different geographical locations of Bangladesh are staying at the dormitory.
In this connection, dormitory supervisor, Tahsina Zaman says, – “This is an unique initiative in Bangladesh where all sorts of facilities are provided for female students with extra care, safety and security. In fact when we were student and when we also stayed in hostels, we didn’t get this type of facility during our student life”.
IUB -Saima Hall will play significant role in expanding female education in Bangladesh.
It is hoped that wealthy person of the society will come forward to initiate similar activities in future.
