BGB DG inaugurates Rahmatpur BOP

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui inaugurated a newly constructed Border Outpost (BOP) at Rahmatpur in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday.

The new Rahmatpur BOP, under Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB), was inaugurated during his visit to the remote border area.

Later, he inspected remote border areas of Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts and Speaking at the inauguration, the BGB director general said the Rahmatpur border area is geographically and strategically important because of the Feni River basin and its hilly terrain.

The permanent presence of BGB personnel and strengthened surveillance would further reinforce border security, he said.

He said the new BOP would increase patrols and surveillance along the Feni River routes and remote hill areas, help control potential smuggling routes and strengthen BGB’s capacity to prevent the trafficking of drugs, arms and other illegal goods.

Later, the BGB chief inspected Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB) and exchanged views with personnel deployed at all sectors, battalions, BOPs and camps under the Chattogram BGB Region through video teleconference.

He provided necessary directives on operational, training and administrative activities.

Major General Siddiqui said BGB personnel were working round the clock to protect the country’s 4,427-kilometre-long border, including its remote hill areas.

He thanked the personnel for performing their duties with skill, courage and dedication despite difficult terrain and various limitations.
