‘Noise pollution, deer hunting to be stopped in Sundarbans’

State Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Lion Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam has said, “I have seen in the media that illegal resorts have been built inside the ECA of the Forest Department.
I have come to see whether illegal activities are being carried out here and whether the wildlife of the Sundarbans is being harmed. Any aspect of harm including noise pollution, deer hunting and any illegal activity will be stopped if it is found.”
He made these remarks while visiting 18 resorts built on the edge of the forest under the Dhangmari station of the Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans Eastern Forest Division from Wednesday morning to noon. He was accompanied by officials from the Department of Environment (Khulna) and the Forest Department (Bagerhat/Mongla).
He also said, “There is an opportunity to use solar energy in the resorts. Generators cannot be run, noise pollution cannot be caused. Although, these are located in environmentally critical areas. I have come to verify the legality of this. Our job is to ensure the security of the forest. If anyone violates security, strict action will be taken against them and the rest will be warned.”
No damage has been seen so far after visiting the resort. A final decision will be made at a meeting of the ministry after returning.
It is worth mentioning that on October 4, the Department of Environment announced the closure of 18 resorts built near the Sundarbans. In light of this, the State Minister for Environment conducted this inspection/observation.
