Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam has urged the university’s alumni to support current students by creating opportunities for mentorship, scholarships, research, seminars, internships and employment.

He said stronger communication and friendly relations between former and current students would allow alumni to share their experiences and help the younger generation in their academic and professional development.

The Vice-Chancellor made the remarks as the chief guest at a reunion of the Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science Alumni Association (IASDSAA), held at the institute’s premises.

Emphasising the need for collective efforts, Obaidul Islam called on teachers, alumni and current students to work together to develop the Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science into a national centre of excellence in the field.

He also sought cooperation from former students in the institute’s overall development, particularly in education, research and infrastructure.

The programme was chaired by Professor Dr Sekander Hayat Khan, Chairperson of the Association’s Board of Trustees.

DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Abdus Salam and Pubali Bank representative Sultana Sharifun Nahar attended the event as special guests.
