Ismail Zabiullah elected ICAPP vice-chairperson
Prime Minister’s Public Administration Adviser Ismail Zabiullah has been elected vice-chairperson of the 13th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), which began in Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday.
Zabiullah, a BNP Standing Committee member, is leading the party’s delegation to the assembly. He delivered his remarks at the first plenary session following the opening ceremony at The Shilla Seoul Hotel.
South Korea’s ruling Democratic Party and opposition People Power Party are jointly hosting the three-day assembly.
In his address, Zabiullah called for stronger democracy, good governance, the rule of law and international cooperation to address global political instability, conflicts and a growing crisis of trust.
He said democracy was not limited to elections but represented a social contract between citizens and those entrusted with state power. He said the relationship should be based on accountability, transparency and respect for fundamental rights.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership, Zabiullah said the BNP viewed its electoral mandate as a responsibility to serve the people and believed peace should be pursued through dialogue rather than conflict.
Expressing concern over humanitarian crises in Palestine and the Middle East, he said human dignity should take precedence over geopolitical interests and international principles should be applied equally.
