Unprofessional practice hurts me: Dighi
Prarthana Fardin Dighi has expressed frustration over the growing trend of sensational and misleading headlines online, as well as unprofessional journalism.
She said such practices are becoming increasingly common, with the original facts often being overshadowed in pursuit of cheap popularity.
Describing herself as a student of journalism, Dighi said the first principle of the profession is never to ask questions in a way that humiliates or harms someone.
However, she noted that sensational captions and provocative headlines are increasingly being used to distort the actual message of news stories.
Expressing her respect for the media, the actress said her maternal grandfather was a journalist, while her late mother had many journalist friends.
Many people close to her are also involved in the profession. “That is why this unprofessional practice hurts me,” she said.
She further pointed out that people are now creating sensational content using nothing more than mobile phone footage, often without following basic journalistic standards.
To increase views, irrelevant portions of interviews are being edited out and replaced with misleading captions, leaving readers and viewers confused.
