Malaysia job seekers’ medical fee set at Tk 8,000

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has fixed the medical examination fee for workers seeking jobs in Malaysia at Tk 8,000 per person, warning medical centres against charging extra money.

No medical centre will be allowed to charge more than the fixed amount for the required medical tests, the ministry said in a press release issued on Wednesday.

It urged Malaysia-bound workers not to pay more than Tk 8,000 under any circumstances and advised them to avoid brokers and middlemen when arranging medical examinations.

The ministry also clarified that medical centres would not operate under the control of any particular recruiting agency. Selected workers would be free to complete their medical examinations at any authorised centre.

It further said that if a worker decided to proceed through a different recruiting agency after receiving a medical slip from another agency, the agency that issued the slip would have to forward the medical report without delay.

The previous agency would not be allowed to raise any objection or provide excuses to withhold the report, the ministry said.

Workers have been advised to inform the ministry immediately if any medical centre demands more than the fixed fee or causes harassment, unnecessary delays or other irregularities.
