‘Star Trek’, ‘X-Men’ actor Sir Patrick Stewart no more
Sir Patrick Stewart, the legendary British actor who won the hearts of audiences by playing iconic roles such as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in ‘Star Trek’ or Prof Charles Xavier in ‘X-Men’, is no more.
He breathed his last at the age of 86 at his home in Los Angeles after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Patrick, who rocked the stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1980s, was a relative unknown when he first appeared on American screens.
‘Star Trek’ creator Gene Roddenberry had made it clear from the start that he would not cast a bald British actor as the main character in the series.
After ‘Star Trek’ ended, Stewart, who was afraid of typecasting, joined forces with Marvel Comics’ ‘X-Men’ in 2000.
His performance as the wheelchair-bound superhuman Prof Charles Xavier ushered in a new era.
His character has been a timeless classic in a total of 8 movies over two decades, including ‘Logan’ and ‘Doctor Strange.’ He also shot a cameo in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ this year.
