‘Next gen poll to be held under caretaker govt’
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said the next general election would be held under a caretaker government.
He made the remarks at a press briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs following the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to restoring the caretaker government system, Salahuddin said there was political consensus on holding the next general election under a caretaker administration.
He indicated that the system would be restored through constitutional amendments in Parliament.
Asked about alleged political coordination between the banned Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami to overthrow the government, the home minister said the government had already made its position clear on the matter.
