Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor highlighted GAU’s growing national and international recognition, increased research funding, improved academic standards, expanded student facilities and accelerated infrastructure development.
He also informed the President that the university had emerged as champion at the Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026, held for the first time in the country.
The GAU delegation included Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahedur Rahman, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad and Registrar Md Abdullah Mridha.
The vice-chancellor outlined the university’s efforts to strengthen research and innovation and translate scientific discoveries into practical solutions for farmers.
He highlighted GAU’s first-ever international conference, initiatives to expand industry-academia collaboration, and research aimed at developing crop varieties suitable for coastal areas and tolerant of salinity to help meet the country’s growing food demand.
He also discussed plans to relocate and diversify two technology villages in more densely populated areas to accelerate the dissemination of agricultural technologies at the grassroots level.
These initiatives, he said, reflected the university’s commitment to connecting laboratory research with farmers’ needs and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
The meeting also focused on improving the quality of higher education and ensuring a supportive and inclusive campus environment.
In the context of the changes following July 2024, the vice-chancellor emphasised the importance of responding sensitively to students’ legitimate expectations, giving due consideration to their views and fostering participatory mechanisms for resolving problems.
The President expressed satisfaction with the progress and initiatives presented by the vice-chancellor and advised GAU to make further contributions to the country’s agricultural sector through research, innovation and technological advancement.
He also expressed interest in visiting Gazipur Agricultural University and agreed to attend its fifth convocation, scheduled for March 18, 2027, as the convocation’s chief guest.
