DSCC vows strict action against staff negligent in civic services
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam has warned that strict administrative action will be taken against officials and employees found negligent in delivering civic services.
“Access to civic services is a fundamental right of citizens,” he said, urging residents to report any negligence by DSCC officials or employees and any failure to address their needs.
Salam made the remarks while chairing an exchange of views with residents of wards 15 to 21 at the auditorium of the corporation’s Kalabagan Green Road Staff Quarter in the capital on Monday.
“Strict administrative action will be taken against those concerned immediately if such complaints are received,” he added.
Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Residents and ward representatives raised several concerns, including waterlogging, mosquito control to prevent dengue, waste management, inadequate street lighting and difficulties in accessing civic services such as birth registration.
The DSCC administrator listened to their complaints and suggestions and sought explanations from the relevant departmental officials present. He also instructed them to take necessary steps to resolve the problems promptly.
Salam said waterlogging remained one of the major problems in Dhaka South and had existed before he took charge. He said the city corporation was working continuously to address the issue.
He also announced that a special drive would soon be launched to evict illegal hawkers from major roads in and around New Market.
“Roads will not be allowed to be occupied under any circumstances. However, hawkers who maintain discipline will be given the opportunity to operate under an alternative arrangement modelled on the night market in Motijheel,” he said.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman, Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Mahabubur Rahman Talukder and Chief Health Officer Dr Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman, among other officials, attended the meeting.
