People to vote for BNP after assessing its 5-yrs work: Chief Whip

Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Nurul Islam Moni has said people will judge the BNP government’s performance over five years and deliver their verdict in the next election.

He urged political opponents to avoid frequent movements aimed at destabilising the government and allow it time to fulfil its responsibilities.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at the Zia Mancha Barishal Divisional Conference-2026 at Barishal Shilpakala Academy Auditorium on Wednesday, under the theme “We Will Work, We Will Build the Country, Bangladesh First”.

Moni said the BNP had formed the government through people’s votes and should be given the opportunity to rebuild the country amid a fragile economy and multiple challenges.

He said opposition programmes, including long marches, were hampering development initiatives.
On the electricity crisis, he said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had granted a three-year tax exemption on imports of solar power equipment.

He expressed hope that planned initiatives could overcome the power deficit within a year.
The BNP had led the movement that ousted the previous government after 17 years of oppression, the Chief Whip said.

He also highlighted government assistance programmes, including Family Cards and Farmer Cards, aimed at improving the livelihood of marginalised communities.

Recalling the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, he praised their roles in the Liberation War and the movement for democracy.

Former lawmaker Bilkis Akhtar Jahan Shirin and lawmaker Md. Rafiqul Islam Jamal attended as special guests.

Zia Mancha General Secretary Md. Foyez Ullah Iqbal inaugurated the conference while BNP leaders from Barishal city and different districts of the division attended the event.
