Magura Jubo Dal leader found dead, bullet found in skull: Police
The body of a local Jubo Dal leader was recovered from a bus counter in Magura town early Wednesday, with a bullet later found inside his skull during a post-mortem examination.
The deceased was identified as Md Saker Hossain, 37, senior joint convener of the Magura municipality unit of Jubo Dal.
He was found at the Royal Express counter at Magura Bus Terminal around 6am, said Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station.
Doctors and police sources confirmed the discovery of the bullet after the post-mortem examination on Wednesday afternoon. Doctors initially suspected that he had died from a gunshot wound.
The post-mortem was conducted at Magura 250-bed Hospital. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is issued, said Additional Superintendent of Police Thandar Khairul Hasan.
According to local sources, people found Saker unconscious inside the counter and took him to Magura 250-bed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Initially believing that he had died of illness, family members took his body home. While preparing it for ritual washing, they noticed a wound on the back of his head and informed the police. The body was subsequently taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police sources said a CCTV camera installed by the district police at the entrance to the bus terminal recorded audio in which two gunshots could be heard around the time of the incident.
Several motorcycles and easy-bikes were also seen entering and leaving the terminal around that time. However, the counter was outside the camera’s field of view, preventing investigators from capturing the shooting itself.
Police said two passengers were inside the counter at the time of the incident. They had been waiting to travel to Dhaka by bus. Investigators are trying to gather information by questioning them.
Family members alleged that Saker had been killed in a premeditated attack stemming from political rivalry. They also claimed that he had faced 10 cases they described as politically motivated over the past 17 years.
