Mohammedan fail to win

Kings are on top
Players of Bashundhara Kings celebrate after scoring a goal against City Club during their Federation Cup football match at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj on Tuesday.

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited started dreaming of victory with the goal of Souleymane Diabate. But that dream was crushed by Yohan Mabida of PWD Sports Club.

The Cameroonian forward’s brilliant overhead kick finally cost the black and white team victory. Mohammedan drew 1-1 with PWD Sports Club in the Federation Cup on Tuesday.

Finally, Mohammedan’s wait was over in the 61st minute. Diabaté received Faisal Ahmed’s long pass from the right and sent the ball into the net with a perfect shot. Santiago Varela’s team took the lead.

Cameroonian forward Yohan Mabida equalized for PWD Sports Club in the 76th minute. He sent the ball into Mohammedan’s net with a wonderful overhead kick.

Mohammedan’s story at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj is nothing but wasted opportunities and late disappointment.

Bashundhara Kings took the top position of the points table of Group ‘B’ with 6 points from two matches. Mohammedan took the second place with 4 points after playing two matches.

Bashundhara Kings played aggressive football from the start against City Club at Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj. They didn’t have to wait long to reap the benefits of that attack.

In the 17th minute, City Club’s Gambian defender Fodaye Darbo fouled Kings’ Brazilian forward Robson Robinho in their own box.

Referee awarded a penalty in favour of Kings. Robson scored from a spot kick in the next minute to give Kings the lead.

Kings doubled their lead five minutes before the end of the first half. City Club goalkeeper Ishaq Akand saved Rakib Hossain’s shot.

But they couldn’t completely eliminate the danger. Emeka Ogbugh headed the ball into the net after receiving the return ball.

Kings maintained the two-goal lead they had gained in the first half and eventually left the field with a 2-0 victory.
