IMMORAL ACT

2 Bangladeshis executed in KSA

Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Makkah region after a court convicted them of committing what authorities described as an “immoral act” inside a mosque in the holy city.

The two, identified as Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, were executed on Wednesday (14 October), according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

The ministry said security authorities arrested the pair and launched an investigation before referring the case to the relevant court.

The court found them guilty and sentenced them to death under discretionary punishment provisions, citing the seriousness of the offence and the violation of the sanctity of the mosque.

Saudi authorities subsequently upheld the verdict, and a royal order authorised the execution of the sentences, the statement said.

The ministry did not provide further details about the nature of the alleged act or the circumstances surrounding the incident. In its statement, the ministry reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enforcing Islamic law, maintaining public security and protecting the sanctity of places of worship. It also warned that those found guilty of similar offences would face legal consequences.
