GAU’S TEACHER UNDER FIRE

Promise of marriage turns into alleged rape, blackmail

A Bangladeshi born woman, currently staying in UK, who requested her name not to be published and will be referred to as “Sultana” in this report, has alleged that she was sexually assaulted and raped under the promise of marriage by Ibrahim Rashid, a Bangladeshi citizen and assistant professor of the Department of Fisheries Biology and Aquatic Environment at Gazipur Agriculture University (GAU).
Sultana told The New Nation that the alleged assault occurred from 2023 to 2025.

Sultana said that Ibrahim constantly demanded money, promised to marry her, physically assaulted her, verbally abused, and blackmailed her by recording intimate videos.

The New Nation has received a substantial amount of digital and primary evidence related to the allegations including emails, text messages, voice notes, a hospital discharge letter, hotel booking receipts and other documents.

Recently, a legal notice was served on GAU on behalf of the alleged victim, seeking an immediate investigation into the matter and the dismissal of Ibrahim.

Earlier, a separate notice concerning the same matter served on the University of Stirling on behalf of Sultana. Stirling university said, the allegations concerning Ibrahim would remain on his institutional record on a permanent basis.

In April 2022 she met Ibrahim there while he was pursuing his PhD. However, Ibrahim was also married but he kept this information secret from the women. Several months into the relationship, Ibrahim began physically abusing, torturing, blackmailing, and coercing her, she said.

Alleged assault and hospitalisation
The situation escalated during a trip to London on 8 September 2025, she said. She said, “I was menstruating at the time, which allegedly angered Ibrahim and said there was no point in going to London with me if we could not be intimate,” she said. Sultana further alleged that he physically assaulted her after she refused.

What did the hospital’s discharge report say?
On 11 September 2025, the victim was hospitalised at King’s College Hospital after being sexually assaulted and severely tortured by Ibrahim Rashid.

The report says, doctors found multiple serious injuries on her body, including marks on the left side of her face, bruising on her left elbow, and injuries to her ribs. The report also confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

She said, “ I also reported the entire matter to the Scottish police. They verified and filed a case against him.” The report said, “She is a victim of sexual assault. Prolonged physical assault for two days, and was kicked on the ribs.”

The New Nation also obtained a hotel booking receipt and invoice issued in the name of Ibrahim on 8 Sept to 11 Sept 2025.

Following the incident, the victim filed a rape case against Ibrahim Rashid with the Scottish Police on 25 February 2026 (reference no: 1723 of 25/2/26), accusing him of sexual offences.

Blackmailing issue
Sultana said that Ibrahim blackmailed her and forced her into sexual acts.

“He secretly recorded some of our private moments without my knowledge and threatened to upload on social media if I did not comply with his demands. When I refused, he became aggressive and verbally abused me.”

The New Nation reviewed a screenshot that appears to show Ibrahim threatening Sultana.
In the message, Ibrahim allegedly wrote: “I will expose everything to your children and ex-husband. Then, you will do porn to survive in your life.”

Forcing the victim to provide money and gifts
According to the victim, Ibrahim Rashid repeatedly demanded money from her.

The New Nation obtained digital evidence from their conversations, also bank transaction copies, money transition copies.

According to a call record, Ibrahim allegedly said, “Where is my money? Give me the bill. Where are my gifts? Pay it first.”

Sultana claimed that Ibrahim Rashid repeatedly demanded money and gifts, saying: “You still haven’t paid my rent. My sister’s husband needs money—transfer it to his account.”

The New Nation found bank invoices and funds transferring receipt copies from Sultana.
The items reportedly include a MacBook (£898), iPhone (£770), Apple AirPods (£180), Apple Watch (£480), Superdry jackets (£197), a trip to Japan (£300), headphones (£85), Penguin jackets (£66), Boots toiletries (£90), Bluetooth headphones (£130), hotel costs at Cambridge (£114), washing machine and others.

Refusal to marriage
The victim said that she discovered Ibrahim Rashid had a wife and children, and questioned why he had not disclosed his marital status earlier.

Ibrahim allegedly responded, “You were also separated and you also have children. I accepted everything about your life so why can you not accept my issues? I am too. This is not a big issue. I don’t feel interested in my wife. You are my everything. I want to stay with you,” Sultana said.

According to a call record, on 24 February 2026, Ibrahim Rashid denied continuing the relationship with the victim. The victim wanted to know the actual cause for such a decision. However, Ibrahim said, “I will not continue this relationship.”

Ibrahim also reportedly said, “I wanted to stop you, that’s why I made promises of marriage, and so on.”
Ibrahim also replied, “It’s not possible to move on with you. I am not interested in continuing with you—you are like a psychopath. I have gained nothing good from talking to you.”

Later in the conversation, the victim again brought up the marriage promises, but Ibrahim reportedly responded, “Forget everything I did. I don’t have any feelings for you.” At the time, Ibrahim was in Bangladesh, while the victim was in the UK.

Speaking to The New Nation, the victim said, “He is a fraud and a cheater. He has no right to serve as an educator to students. I will do everything to make him face trial. People should know about him. I am ready to speak to the national media, international media, the prime minister, the chief justice, and everyone. I just want my justice.”

The New Nation attempted to contact Ibrahim through multiple phone calls seeking his comment on the allegations, but he did not respond.

However, speaking to another media outlet about the allegations, Ibrahim reportedly said, “Tell her to come here, and I will marry her. She loves me, but I do not love her.”

Abdullah Mridha, registrar of Gazipur Agricultural University, told The New Nation that the university was already aware of the allegations and was treating the matter with utmost seriousness.

“We are taking the allegations very seriously. A four-member investigation committee has already been formed to look into the matter. As soon as I learned about the allegations, I sought a written explanation from Ibrahim Rashid. In his response, he denied all the allegations and claimed that they were false,” Mridha said.

He further said, “If the allegations are proven, strict disciplinary action will be taken against the teacher concerned.”

“We have also asked Sultana to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate her allegations. However, we have not yet received the requested documents. She is expected to submit the supporting evidence to the university by 18 October,” the registrar added.
