Gianni Infantino named in new scandal
It never seems to end with Gianni Infantino. The FIFA president is at the center of a new controversy.
According to information from The Times, the FIFA president allegedly received an additional $1.76 million in 2024 through a company linked to the organization of the 2026 World Cup. This remuneration was not publicly disclosed.
The amount would come on top of the 4.274 million Swiss francs, or approximately £3.88 million, officially declared by the organization as his annual remuneration.
These revelations raise questions about the transparency of Gianni Infantino’s income, as he prepares to seek another term at the helm of FIFA.
Beyond the amounts involved, it is above all the issue of transparency that lies at the heart of this new controversy.
According to accounting documents reviewed by The Times, payments made by FWC2026 US Inc allegedly included $626,229 in additional reportable remuneration, without these sums appearing in FIFA’s annual report in the same way as income paid directly by the organisation.
The existence of this second remuneration also raises questions about whether public disclosures comply with the organization’s governance rules.
Article 43, paragraph 13, of FIFA’s statutes does in fact provide for the individual disclosure of the remuneration of its senior officials.
It should be noted that The Times’ investigation also examines Gianni Infantino’s lifestyle in the United States.
The FIFA chief spent a significant portion of his time there as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
According to the newspaper, the additional remuneration allegedly helped finance certain expenses related to his move to Miami, including the rental of a luxurious beachfront residence for several tens of thousands of dollars per month.
The latest revelations come at the worst possible time for Gianni Infantino, who is already facing growing opposition to his leadership.
