ABG to launch first University Cup Cricket and Football
Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) is set to organise cricket and football tournaments together for the first time in the country, featuring ten private universities teams.
The tournaments set to take place on October 25 and 26 at Kings Arena and Anvir Cricket Stadium.
The champions in both cricket and football will receive prize money of Tk 10 lakh each, while the runners-up in each discipline will receive Tk 500,000. All matches will be played under floodlights.
Md. Imrul Hasan, Director of Bashundhara Sports City, is a well-known figure in the Bangladeshi sports arena.
He serves as the President of Bashundhara Kings and holds the position of Senior Vice-President at the Bangladesh Football Federation. He said, “Bashundhara Group has consistently worked towards the development of sports.
Our sports hub is a comprehensive sports complex, equipped with adequate facilities to host both domestic and international competitions across various sports disciplines.”
He added, “For now, we are starting with cricket and football, with 10 teams participating in this initial event. We plan to organise the tournament involving 50 universities this coming December, at which point the scope and scale of the event will naturally expand.”
The inaugural ABG University Cup will conclude with the football final on November 3 and the cricket final on November 13.
Organising tournaments featuring teams from schools, colleges, or universities is nothing new in Bangladesh.
But football and cricket tournaments have never been held simultaneously -a feat now being accomplished through the Anvir Bashundhara Group ABG University Cricket and Football Tournament.
