Jashore municipal cleaners to get flats

A seven-storey residential building with 48 flats is being constructed in Jashore to provide improved housing facilities for the cleaners of Jashore Municipality.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, MP, laid the foundation stone of the building at the Old Khulna Bus Stand area, adjacent to Monihar Cinema Hall Road in Jashore town on Friday.

The building is being constructed under a project titled “Construction of a Residential Building for Cleaners of the Municipality”. The project is expected to improve the living conditions of the municipality’s cleaning staff.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, Anindya Islam Amit said cleaners play an important role in keeping the city clean and liveable. The government is implementing various development initiatives to address their housing problems and improve their living standards, he added.

He expressed hope that the project would not only improve housing facilities for the cleaners but also contribute to their overall quality of life.

The building will have 48 flats on its second to seventh floors, with each flat comprising two bedrooms, a combined living and dining room, a kitchen, two bathrooms and two balconies. Each flat will cover 512 square feet.

The ground floor will feature a community hall, a substation room, a generator room, a multipurpose open space and a children’s play area. The building will also have a lift, a generator and solar power facilities.

According to project details, the building will be supported by 87 cast-in-situ piles, each 22.5 metres long and 0.6 metres in diameter.
Mim Development Engineering Limited, based in Banpara, Natore, has been awarded the construction contract under package number PD/Pori.Abashan/Jashore.W1.47 (TID-1112226). The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the project.
Among those present at the ceremony were LGED Executive Engineer in Jashore Ahmed Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashik Hasan, Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, Jashore district BNP President Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, along with other dignitaries.
